Don't Give Up the Fight

Yes, Technorati has been an absolute nightmare lately, but I'm not ready to give up on it, yet. For one, the new blog beta feature has great promise. And true, I don't mind showing my vanity here, it might be the one time ever I am listed ahead of two blogging giants (do a search for photography). Picking on Technorati has been the cause du jour/celebre among the A-listers, but the search function will be back on track eventually. Yes, some of the links are dated/irrelevant. But they have a storytelling category. My heart doth swoon.

Weird. Today I wrote a letter to Amanda. A real letter. I even went here to do some fancy letter folding to atone for my atrocious penmanship. And then the virtual world and my tequila-enhanced meta world collided. After I mailed said letter, I wanted to re-read it. This is something I do, after all with blog posts. I write. I send. I re-read.

My brain could not get its fingers around the problem. The letter was handwritten. It wasn't saved anywhere. I could no more access it than I could squeeze my head into the blue postal box. It was gone forever.

I think now of the letter writing greats. Did Henry Miller make copies of his letters before he mailed them off? Or did he read them once, and once only, before mailing them, never to be seen by his eyes again? In an age where it is so easy to edit my writing, even after I send it into the World Wild Web, I don't know how I feel about this. If I could never read my own posts, would I even bother?

As I mentioned, this blog of mine is all about vanity.
