Tagged, Once Again. Memes come here to die. Etc.
The object of this now terminal meme is to post the first sentence from each month of the last year. Sort of a Meme Year in Review. And further proof that you should always invest heavy energy into the first line of anything you write.
Here it is, in paragraph form, from January to December:
I never had the patience to be a model firefighter. I need some advice. As a child I think one of my weaknesses was a tendency to live moment by moment. “Fix the fence.” I’m not proud of some of the things I’ve done in my life, most of which actually occurred just this Saturday. I'm It. Okay, I’ll admit it. In the past, when I wrote short stories during college, they invariably resulted from some sweaty panic induced by reading a real author. It's really hard not to love people who rescue squirrels. I realize that in talking about my experiences as a volunteer firefighter, I sometimes portray a humility that borders precipitously on false modesty. I’ve been married a loooong time, but I still remember clearly what it’s like to be dumped. Walking around, faces like watercolors; everyone beautiful and out of focus in the world.
